Caumos' brace: Italy's next World Cup triumph

Italy continues its winning streak at the World Championships in Budapest. The Azzurre secured another victory on Monday, bringing them a step closer to their goal.

Italy won their second match at the B World Championship: The Blue Team defeated Slovakia 6-4. Among them were South Tyrolean players Franziska Stocker, Anna Caumo, Laura Lobis, Manuela Heidenberger, and Sara Kaneppele, who – as at the Olympics – are part of the squad. The Azzurre's goal is the world championship title, which would see Italy promoted to the top division, comprising the ten best teams in the world, for the first time in its history.

The braces from Reyes and Bruneck native Caumo, as well as the goals from Fortino and Della Rovere, characterized the victory against Slovakia, complemented by Durante's saves in the heated final phase and the effort of a team that is more determined than ever to secure these three points.

The only downside was Matilde Fantin's injury in the first period: The 19-year-old forward suffered a traumatic injury to her left knee, which is still being examined. Italy leads the B World Championship with 6 points, while the second matchday has yet to be completed. Tuesday is a rest day, and the game against France is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
