Sensation: Keenan no longer Italy coach

The Italian Ice Hockey Federation FISG is looking for a new head coach for the senior national team. The contract with the previous head coach Mike Keenan has been terminated.

Mike Keenan is no longer the coach of Italy's national ice hockey team. The responsible association, the Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio (FISG for short), announced this on Saturday morning. Interim coach Mike Pelino, who coached the team at the home World Championships in Bolzano in May, will also not return to the bench. Instead, the association is looking for a new coach.

Keenan himself gave the reason for the termination of the contract. He was unable to take part in the home World Cup for health reasons and would not be available for the next six months either. The association has now reacted to this and terminated the contract. Keenan will, however, continue to work with the FISG as a technical and strategic advisor.

Soon new coach

The ice hockey association is currently looking meticulously for successors. There are already concrete names and discussions, but nothing has been signed yet.
