Slovenia causes World Cup upset

The Czech Republic suffered a surprising 2-3 defeat against Slovenia in overtime in Group B of the Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland during the evening game.

For Slovenia, Anze Kuralt initially equalized at 2-2 with just under twelve minutes remaining in regulation time, and in overtime, Marcel Mahkovec scored the decisive goal after 1:14 minutes. Slovenia is considered one of Italy's main rivals in the fight to avoid relegation.

In Group A, host nation Switzerland maintains a perfect record of six points after a 4-2 victory against Latvia. Playing in Zurich in front of 10.000 spectators, the Swiss found the net through Timo Meier after 30 minutes, having previously frustrated Latvia's goalkeeper Kristers Gudlevskis time and again.
