The Czech Republic and Sweden are in the quarterfinals

After Switzerland and Germany had already qualified for the quarter-finals of the ice hockey tournament at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games on Tuesday, the Czech Republic and Sweden followed suit in the evening.

The Czech Republic qualified for the quarterfinals with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Denmark. Martin Necas was the match-winner with a goal and an assist, while Roman Cervenka also scored. Goaltender Lukáš Dostál secured the narrow lead with 24 saves, especially in the final stages. After a scoreless first period, all five goals came in the second, before the Czechs weathered the Danish pressure in the final frame. This sets up a rematch against Canada.

In their final game on Tuesday, Sweden comfortably qualified for the quarterfinals, defeating Latvia 5-1. Two goals within just 41 seconds by Adrian Kempe and captain Gabriel Landeskog established a clear lead in the first period, before Filip Forsberg made it 3-0 in the second. Although Latvia managed to pull one back through Eduards Tralmaks, Sweden controlled the game after the intermission, extending their lead to 4-1 with a goal from Mika Zibanejad on a counterattack, and William Nylander added the final goal.
