Anaheim Ducks celebrate first quarterfinal victory

The Anaheim Ducks leveled the series against the Vegas Golden Knights at 1-1 last night (CEST) in the NHL Western Conference playoff semifinals with a 3-1 away win.

After their victory in their second consecutive away game, the Ducks now have the chance to pull ahead in the duel on their home ice on Friday and Sunday.

Beckett Sennecke, Leo Carlsson, and Jansen Harkins scored the goals that gave Anaheim their first victory in the gambling metropolis. But the hero of the evening was goaltender Lukas Dostal, who racked up 21 saves. Among the backups for the Czech number one was South Tyrolean newcomer Damian Clara, who – as in the opening game against Vegas – sat in the stands as the third-string goalie.

Meanwhile, in Buffalo, the Sabres began their series against the storied Montreal Canadiens with a 4-2 home victory. The home team was already leading 4-1 halfway through the game.

The results from last night:

Buffalo Sabers – Montreal Canadiens 4-2
Vegas Golden Knights – Anaheim Ducks 1:3

The series standings in the quarter-finals:

Colorado Avalanche – Minnesota Wild 2-0
Vegas Golden Knights – Anaheim Ducks 1:1
Buffalo Sabers – Montreal Canadiens 1-0
Carolina Hurricanes – Philadelphia Flyers 2-0
