Chicago goalkeeper Arvid Soderblom (96,7% save percentage) and striker Taylor Hall (one goal, one assist) were the main players in the underdog victory.
The Rangers have lost eight of their last ten games and are currently not living up to the high expectations in Manhattan. Neither the trade of captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks nor the contract extension of goalie Igor Shesterkin (92 million dollars for the next eight years) have been able to create a spirit of optimism in New York in recent weeks.
The Rangers are in second place in the Eastern Conference wildcard, but can feel the hot breath of their pursuers breathing down their necks. The Blackhawks are second to last in the Central Division, twelve points behind a wildcard spot.
Red Wings turn up late
The Detroit Red Wings recorded a 6-5 victory in the penalty shootout against the Buffalo Sabres. For Detroit, it was the first win after five consecutive losses. It was not until the third period that the Red Wings were able to equalize with goals from Andrew Copp (3st) and Moritz Seider (51th) and save themselves in overtime. In the penalty shootout, Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit, while Patrick Kane had to admit defeat to the opposing goalkeeper.
The Montreal Canadiens also struggled to win on penalties in their home game against underdog Anaheim. The Hebs won 3-2 in the end.
