With a pass from Leon Draisaitl, McDavid scored the equalizer at the beginning of the second period, making it 1-1. With this goal, McDavid reached the 1.000-point mark in his NHL career.
The 27-year-old attacker needed 659 games to achieve this; in NHL history, only Wayne Gretzky (424 games), Mario Lemieux (513) and Mike Bossy (656) reached this milestone faster.
McDavid: "Means a lot to me"
"Just seeing how happy my teammates and the fans were means a lot to me. That's more important to me than the pure numbers," said McDavid about his milestone. "This is a special moment, the stuff of legends. I met him for the first time when he was 18 years old. Seeing him develop like this is just great," said Draisaitl about his teammate. The two have been on the ice together for the Oilers since 2015. Darnell Nurse scored Edmonton's winning goal after two and a half minutes in overtime, in which both McDavid and Draisaitl were involved. The Buffalo Sabres won 4:3 (2:1, 0:2, 1:0) at home against the St. Louis Blues. Rasmus Dahlin scored the winning goal from a power play one and a half minutes into overtime. The Ottawa Senators were defeated after overtime. The Canadians lost 4:5 (1:1, 1:1, 2:2) at home against the Philadelphia Flyers.
