The 25-year-old Vegas forward initially tied the game 1-1 in the first period after a strong solo effort. In the second period, Dorofeyev required treatment after a blocked shot but returned to the ice shortly afterward. Tomas Hertl put Vegas ahead 2-1 in the final period before Olen Zellweger tied the game for Anaheim just before the end of regulation time, sending the game into overtime.
There, Dorofeyev once again made the decisive move: After a deflected pass from Jack Eichel, the striker reacted quickest and scored from the air to secure a celebrated 3-2 victory.
Vegas can clinch their decisive fourth victory in Game 6 on Thursday in Anaheim and secure their place in the Western Conference Finals. That would also mark the end of Damian Clara's season. The 21-year-old from Reischach was also in the stands as the backup goalie for his Ducks' fifth game against Vegas.
In Tuesday's other game, the Buffalo Sabres evened their best-of-seven series against the Montreal Canadiens. Zach Benson scored the Sabres' game-winning goal on his 21st birthday.
