German Olympic forward dismantles NHL opponent

The Ottawa Senators are currently among the NHL teams most inconveniently affected by the break for the Milan Winter Olympics. The German national team, on the other hand, can look forward to a star player in top form.

The club from the Canadian capital celebrated their fourth consecutive victory last night (CET) with a 3-2 win against the in-form Pittsburgh Penguins. Tim Stützle once again proved to be a reliable player.

The former Mannheim striker put the Sens ahead 2-1 in the 47th minute with his 26th goal of the season, and later he also set up the winning goal by Claude Giroux (55th minute).

Stützle needs 13 more goals to reach a personal season record. He is also his team's leading scorer – and by a considerable margin. After the game in Pittsburgh, the German has 59 points, 11 more than Drake Batherson and 15 more than Jake Sanderson.

Last night's NHL results:

Florida Panthers – Buffalo Sabers 3:5
Pittsburgh Penguins – Ottawa Senators 2:3
Washington Capitals – New York Islanders 4:1
Minnesota Wild – Montreal Canadiens 4:3 aet
Nashville Predators - St. Louis Blues 6:5
Chicago Blackhawks – San Jose Sharks 6:3
Dallas Stars – Winnipeg Jets 4:3 aet
Colorado Avalanche – Detroit Red Wings 0:2
Utah Mammoth – Vancouver Canucks 6:2
Calgary Flames – Toronto Maple Leafs 2:4
