This Swiss man is facing a historic milestone

The Winnipeg Jets successfully kicked off their four-game road trip, securing an important away win against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center on Tuesday night. The focus was on Swiss player Nino Niederreiter.

In one of the biggest Swiss duels before the Milan Olympics, New Jersey captain Nico Hischier and Winnipeg's power forward Nino Niederreiter both found the back of the net. Niederreiter is now on the verge of a significant milestone.

Niederreiter scored the game-winning goal late in the second period, making it 4-1. On a 2-on-1 breakaway, he and Vladislav Namestnikov skated towards the Devils' net, and he volleyed home a pass from his linemate (37th minute). This was the 248th NHL goal and 499th NHL point for the 33-year-old forward from Chur.

Only one point is missing.

“Yes, I’ve been thinking about it and I know I had a few chances today to make it happen,” Niederreiter grinned. “Hopefully it will work out in the next game.”

He would be only the third Swiss player to break the 500-point barrier. Only Roman Josi (Nashville Predators, 755) and Kevin Fiala (Los Angeles Kings, 525) have achieved this before him.
