Draisaitl wins top scorer trophy for the first time

German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl has won the award for the best goalscorer of an NHL season for the first time.

With 52 goals, the Edmonton Oilers attacker clearly prevailed in the end, although the 29-year-old missed numerous games at the end of the season and was no longer able to play.

He beat William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs (45 goals) and the new historic NHL record scorer Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres (both 44 goals).

In the 2019/20 season, Draisaitl already received the Art Ross Trophy as top scorer, the Hart Trophy, and the Ted Lindsay Award as most valuable player. He now also receives the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy. Draisaitl has twice finished as the second-leading scorer in an NHL season. His personal best is 55 goals.

The other awards

As in the previous year, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning was the top scorer of the season with 121 points. Draisaitl finished the season in third place with 106 points in his 71 games.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets, the top team in the regular season, won the William M. Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals against. He is also considered a favorite for the season's best goaltender and most valuable player awards.
