Fire death with three children: NHL mourns reporter

As the NHL announced on Sunday, a reporter from the Minnesota Wild team has died.

Six of Sunday's eight NHL games went to overtime: The league's current top team, the Colorado Avalanche, defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2, as did the Nashville Predators against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Winnipeg Jets won 3-2 in a shootout against the New York Rangers. The Carolina Hurricanes cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina currently leads the Metropolitan Division.


In the duel between two division leaders, the Anaheim Ducks (Pacific) and the Buffalo Sabres (Atlantic), Anaheim narrowly won 6:5 in overtime.

Tragic news has emerged from the Minnesota Wild community. Jessi Pierce, a reporter for NHL.com who had covered the Wild for ten years, and her three children perished in a fire at their home. The league announced this on Sunday.
