The German flag bearer at the Milan Winter Olympics was involved in all of his Edmonton Oilers' goals in their 5-4 overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators. With this win, Edmonton maintained their narrow lead in the tight race for playoff spots in the North American league, while the Senators fell behind.

Draisaitl, who recorded five points for the first time in over three years, scored the Oilers' first two goals himself, keeping his team in the game during the first period. The score was tied 2-2 going into the second period, where the visitors opened the door to an away victory with two more goals, taking a 4-2 lead. Stützle played a key role in this, contributing two assists.

But Edmonton did not give up and, thanks to assist from Draisaitl, first came back to level the score and then equalized again a minute and a half before the regular end.

In overtime, Senators captain and US Olympic gold medalist Brady Tkachuk committed a hold and received a two-minute penalty. The home team capitalized on the ensuing power play, with Evan Bouchard scoring the game-winning goal. Cologne native Draisaitl also got a touch on the puck in the build-up.
