NHL spectacle in front of 80.000 fans and in the open air

The New York Rangers won the outdoor game of the so-called Stadium Series in the North American professional ice hockey league NHL against local rivals New York Islanders.

The Rangers won 80.000:6 (5:1, 3:2, 1:2, 1:1) after extra time in front of around 0 spectators at MetLife Stadium on Sunday (local time). Artemi Panarin scored the winning goal ten seconds into overtime. It was the Rangers' seventh win in a row. They also remain unbeaten in outdoor games and also won their fifth game.

For a long time it looked like a win for the Islanders, who were leading 4-1 at one point and 5-3 with five minutes left. But the Rangers took a risk and took goalkeeper Igor Schesterkin off the ice early on in favor of another skater. With the advantage, the Rangers then scored twice and equalized in regular time.

As the leaders of their Metropolitan Division, the Rangers are clearly on course for the playoffs, the Islanders are currently four points behind the wild card places.

MacKinnon with a monster series

The Colorado Avalanche won against the Arizona Coyotes 4-3. Star player Nathan MacKinnon was also involved in at least one Avalanche goal in the 26th home game of the season, making it the second longest such streak in NHL history.

In the third game of the evening, the Los Angeles Kings won 2-1 at the Pittsburgh Penguins thanks to two late goals from Adrian Kempe. Before the game, the Penguins paid tribute to club legend Jaromir Jagr, whose number 68 jersey was pulled under the hall roof and will no longer be given away.
