Only 9 shots on goal: An embarrassing performance from Rangers

The Ottawa Senators continued their comeback in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 away win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The goal scorers for Ottawa were Shane Pinto and Warren Foegele, while goalkeeper James Reimer only had to parry eight shots.

The Senators set a franchise record, allowing only nine shots on goal while firing 33 shots themselves.

With their impressive run (14 wins in the last 19 games), the Senators are back in the thick of the playoff race. They are now only two points behind a wild card spot.

The Rangers, on the other hand, suffered their fifth consecutive loss in the NHL's only Monday night game, leaving them languishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with 65 points. Conor Sheary scored New York's only goal against Ottawa. Their nine shots on goal were a historically low number for the once-glorious powerhouse from the Big Apple.
