Oilers, Devils, Canadiens reduce NHL deficit to 1:2

In the National Hockey League (NHL), three teams narrowed the deficit to 1:2 with home wins in the playoffs on Friday.

In the West, the Edmonton Oilers made their first appearance with a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. In the East, the New Jersey Devils beat Carolina 3-2 in overtime. The Montreal Canadiens beat the Washington Capitals 6-3, marking their first win in the first round of the best-of-seven series after two losses.


The winning trio will soon have a chance to tie the series with another home victory. The Oilers demonstrated nerves of steel by prevailing despite blowing a 2-0 lead and trailing 3-4. Four goals in the final period, including goals to make it 4-4 and 5-4 by Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard within ten seconds, paved the way for the Oilers to tie the series against Los Angeles.

120 decibels measured

Montreal capitalized on home advantage with six goals in the sold-out Bell Centre. Alexandre Carrier's first Canadiens goal to tie the game at 1-1 reportedly reached 120 decibels in the arena. In New Jersey, defenseman Simon Nemec celebrated his game-winning goal in the second overtime.
