Oilers shock: Draisaitl injured off the ice

Leon Draisaitl was injured in the NHL game between the Edmonton Oilers and the San José Sharks.

The league's leading scorer left the ice early in the second period on a power play and disappeared into the catacombs. The extent of the injury to the German international was not apparent from TV footage of the scene.

The Oilers classified his return as "questionable" during the game, but the 29-year-old Cologne native never returned. Without him, Edmonton won the road game 3-2. Draisaitl contributed an assist and now has 54 assists this season. He leads the scoring list with 52 goals.

Draisaitl had missed four games due to a lower-body injury and only returned to the team on Saturday. The Oilers have not yet secured a playoff spot.
