Now it's all or nothing for Ritten

While Jesenice won the first game against Sokil Kyiv 5:2 on Saturday, the Rittner Buam defeated KHL Sisak 10:2 in the evening game. Both teams have now won two games and will now face each other in the all-important game three. The winner will advance to the third and final round of the Continental Cup.

The evening game on the second day of play was tough from the start and the Rittner Buam SkyAlps showed a very good offensive performance. With the second good scoring opportunity (Spinell missed the empty goal on the first), Prast scored the 1:0 (2.56) after a perfect Manuel Öhler pass. Less than a minute later, Sisak equalized through Dostalek in the first power play of the game (3.41), but shortly after the power break, Ritten really turned it on. Just as a penalty for Sisak expired, Giacomuzzi was in the right place after a Lobis shot and pushed it in (13.07), and just over 30 seconds later, Spinell scored from the slot scrum to make it 3:1 (13.42). Even when outnumbered, the boys remained the better team on the ice, as shown by the 4:1 when Cuglietta countered the penalty kill and remained ice-cold in front of Sisak goalie Rosandic (15.42). Cuglietta also made it 5:1 in a subsequent power play when he perfectly deflected a shot from Hjorth with his paddle (17.57) and the Rittner boys led 5:1 at the end of the third period.

The second period began a little less excitingly, but the Rittner Buam continued to impress with great confidence and concentration. Coach Jamie Russell also sent backup goalie Florian Plattner onto the ice at the start of the period, so that the youngster from Rittner also made his Continental Cup debut. He kept his net clean in the middle period, while his teammates scored two more goals for the guests from Croatia. First, Spinell scored the 6:1 after a counterattack when he sunk the puck from behind the goal over Rosandic's back into the goal (28.33), then Kevin Fink was there after a rebound from Hopponen's shot (32.33).

The 8:1 was a little luckier, as a Sisak defender used his skate to deflect a puck from Manuel Öhler, which was actually intended as a pass, into his own goal (42.53). A little later, Plattner was applauded when he saved a shot from Canic with a great dive (44.), but a few minutes later he had to admit defeat when Bruno Idzan took a long shot on the power play (50.00). Kevin Fink immediately restored the balance of power when he netted a hair-raising misplaced pass in the Sisak defense to make it 9:2 (51.27) and then Graf also got on the scoresheet with a powerful slap shot (54.08). But then the goal festival was over, which made it clear that the Rittner Buam SkyAlps and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice would play for a place in the third round on Sunday from 20 p.m. Jesenice also beats Sokil Kyiv HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice won their second victory in the second game in the first match on Saturday. At 16 p.m. they met Sokil Kyiv and won 5:2. The Slovenians got off to a strong start in the first period and Svetina remained ice-cold in front of Kyiv goalie Diachenko after a strong pass from Cimzar (4.27). After a beautifully played power play, Lesnicar scored to make it 2:0 for Jesenice (16.12), but Zakharov made it 2:1 with his third goal at the tournament on Ritten before the end of the third period (18.56).

Jesenice was not put off by this, quite the opposite: With a double strike at the start of the second period with two slot deflections by Valtola (23.48) and Cimzar (24.45), they finished off the Sokil Kyiv players, who then seemed broken. They shortened the score to 2:4 in the power play when Blagyi was criminally left alone in the slot (28.51), but Sillipää restored Jesenice's three-goal lead before the second break with a shot into the near top corner, also on a power play (38.15). Nothing happened in the final third and Jesenice brought the second victory over time with ease.
