Tradition has always been a top priority at the Dolomitencup in Neumarkt. It was fitting, then, that the 19th edition was opened by two teams that are among the most iconic in their respective countries. Dynamo Pardubice, the newly crowned Czech runner-up, faced German second-division team EV Landshut in the attractive Würtharena. The team, which arrived in Neumarkt with its new star coach Uwe Krupp, was on hand to witness the bravely fighting Landshuters behind the bench, who, however, had no chance against the Dynamo Express. Pardubice stormed into the final with a furious 7-0 victory.
In the almost sold-out Würtharena, it didn't take long for the stands to get really loud for the first time. After seven minutes, Dynamo's Tomás Urban danced through the Landshut defense and backhanded the puck over goalie Jonas Langmann into the net. A magnificent goal, which the approximately 80 traveling Dynamo fans celebrated frenetically. Pardubice continued to dig deep into the Landshut zone and increased their lead to 14-2 in the 0th minute when Patrik Poulicek crossed in front of the goal and Milos Kelemen only had to slot it home.
Pardubice as if unleashed
Landshut fought back bravely and had the best chance just before halftime, with David Elsner, who, standing free in the slot, missed the target. After the break, Pardubice upped the ante again, scoring three times within 113 seconds. First, Daniel Gazda's shot from the blue line blasted into the Landshut net like a rocket (30th minute), then Urban scored his own brace after fine work from Jiri Smejkal (30th minute), before Smejkal added his own goal with a tap-in (32nd minute).Pardubice brought the case to a short trial. © Max Pattis
Ondrej Miklis (46th minute, blue-liner) and Tomás Vondrácek (59th minute, wrist shot) sealed the victory in the final period, pushing the score to 7-0. By this point, a boisterous party had long since begun in the stands, with both fan bases celebrating this ice hockey festival together.
While Dynamo Pardubice will battle for their third title in their third Dolomitencup appearance on Sunday starting at 20 p.m., Landshut will play for third place starting at 15:45 p.m. The match against whom will be determined tomorrow, Saturday. Then, another treat awaits the Würtharena: In the second semifinal, DEL club Löwen Frankfurt will clash with Norwegian record champions Vålerenga Ishockey. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
