Pond Hockey: Construction company Ploner is crowned European champion in Klobenstein

In the thrilling final, the new European champions, who finished the tournament in fourth place last year, beat the “Lappen of Lapland” 3-2 after extra time. In the “small” final, HC Stommtisch beat the Huskies 2-1. A total of 50 teams from seven different nations took part in the Pond Hockey European Championships in Klobenstein.

The victorious construction company Ploner won the challenge trophy, a snow shovel. Numerous former and still active “cracks” from the AlpsHL and the IHL played in the successful team: Stefan Hafner, Fritz Ploner, Klaus Ploner, Matteo Rasom, Mattias Fauster, Thomas Erlacher, Martin Ausserhofer, Ivan Demetz and Andreas Wanker.

The hard-fought final, which many fans in the Ritten Arena didn't want to miss, was on a knife's edge from the first face-off. First the “Lappen of Lapland” went to the front before Hafner & Co. equalized. Because the regular playing time ended 2-2, the winner had to be determined in extra time. And there the construction company Ploner had the necessary bit of luck on its side and was crowned champion for the first time.

Win after win to the title The construction company Ploner showed no weaknesses throughout the tournament. The team started the competition with a 9-1 win against the Czech team Pond Malögia, which was followed by four more wins in the group phase. In the first match of the knockout phase, the eventual European champion Dr. Hook & his Pirates went down 8:4, in the round of 10 they lost 4:6 against HC Tuiffl, while the construction company Ploner eliminated the Czech team Filiphockey 3:XNUMX in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, the Ploner construction company met the Huskies, where they took revenge for the previous year's defeat with a win.

“It went sensationally this year. It was anything but easy to win the tournament because we were always very challenged from the quarter-finals onwards. “We also had to surpass ourselves in the final against the Lapps of Lapland in order to now be European champions,” said Stefan Hafner, captain of the victorious Baufirma Ploner team.

The Lapps of Lapland, on the other hand, qualified for the final thanks to a 3-2 win against HC Stommtsich. HC Grisù prevailed in the Lucky Loosers, defeating the Schworzen Tigers 7:3. The “Skills Competition” was also a complete success, which was won this year by Heinz Pechlaner and who was able to look forward to a Vespa as the main prize. In the final, Pechlaner lost out to Werner Ramoser and Peter Fink. The organizers are satisfied The fourth edition of the European Pond Hockey Championship also proved to be a complete success. The international event was very well received by the players of the participating teams, as well as their coaches and fans.

Also because there are a lot of teams from abroad and our event is therefore also very valuable from a tourist perspective.
