Svechnikov makes the Hurricanes cheer in Montreal

The Carolina Hurricanes won Game 3 of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Final series in the NHL playoffs, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in overtime. Andrei Svechnikov was the hero in overtime.

The Carolina Hurricanes extended their lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Coach Rod Brind'Amour's team won Game 3 of the best-of-seven series against the Montreal Canadiens 7-2 in overtime and now lead the series 2-1.


Andrei Svechnikov was the match-winner, scoring the decisive goal 14:06 into overtime. The Hurricanes dominated the game for much of the time, boasting a commanding 38-13 shot advantage.

Carolina took the lead through Shayne Gostisbehere before Mike Matheson equalized for Montreal. Taylor Hall put the visitors back in front before the first intermission. In the second period, Matheson tied the game at 2-2 with his second point of the night.

Canada's goal disallowed

A potential go-ahead goal by the Canadiens in the final period was ruled out for offside after a video review. In overtime, the Hurricanes capitalized on their superior play to secure their second consecutive overtime victory. Game four will be played in Montreal on Wednesday night.
