Unterland's junior teams remain number 1

Last year, all three Italian youth championship titles went to the Unterland region. This year, the Neumarkt/Auer junior teams captured two titles. The U3 and U2 teams each successfully defended their previous year's triumphs. Thus, the club, headed by the two presidents Matthias Bertignoll (Neumarkt) and Roman Terzer (Auer), as well as the two sporting directors Paolo Bonazzo and Hansjörg Bampi, remains the undisputed number one in the youth sector.

The junior teams currently coach around 175 children and young people from U6 to U19. The junior teams have ideal conditions with two ice rinks in Neumarkt, where the U2 to U14 teams train and play, and Auer, where the U19 to U8 teams are based. Furthermore, the Unterland youth department enjoys a certain continuity among its coaches: Czech Tomas Ebel has been with them for six years, and Finn Tuomo Harjula for 12.

In the past 24 years, the Neumarkt/Auer junior teams have won 15 Italian championship titles in addition to numerous national championship titles: 3 each in the U19, U17, U16 and U14 categories, and one each in the U18, U13 and U12 categories.

Under 19 This winter, the U19 team finished the regular season in fourth place with 35 points, behind HC Aosta (44 points), Brixen/Wipptal (39), and Asiago (36). Coach Tuomo Harjula's team finished first in the Master Round with 4 points, ahead of Aosta (24). In the quarterfinals, the Lower Austrians defeated Cortina/Alleghe 21-1 and 4-1, and in the semifinals, they defeated Asiago 6-4 and 4-1. In the final, they faced Aosta, just as they did a year ago. Following a 5-3 home win, the junior teams' season culminated in a 4-2 away victory on March 26, securing the championship title.

This is the U19 junior team that won the Italian championship title just like a year ago.

In the semifinals, the junior team made short work of the Rittner Buam, celebrating two decisive victories (2:8 and 2:6). In the final, the Unterland team won Game 2 against HC Pustertal Junior 1:7, suffered their only loss of the season in a 4:2 overtime loss in Bruneck, and sealed the deal with a decisive 3:9 victory at home.
