Looking for promoted and relegated teams: The Landesliga final

While all decisions have already been made for the South Tyrolean teams in the Oberliga, the Landesliga is still very much up for grabs with two matchdays remaining. Here's a brief overview of the final decisions.

With two matchdays remaining, Naturns is six points ahead of Olimpia Meran. Even a single point away against champions Bruneck on Sunday would secure second place in the Landesliga for the team from the Lower Vinschgau region. Around the same time, Naturns will also know whether they can achieve direct promotion, as FC Obermais plays their decisive Serie D relegation playoff match away against Vigasio on Sunday.

If Obermais wins within 120 minutes and thus avoids relegation, two spots would remain open in the Oberliga (Upper League). Conversely, this means that the runners-up in the South Tyrol and Trentino regional leagues – along with the champions – would automatically be promoted. Otherwise, the two regional league runners-up would compete for promotion in a playoff match. It's rather unlikely that Naturns would relinquish second place.

Stegen or Lana?

The relegation battle is also heating up, with two long-standing Oberliga clubs, Lana and Stegen, facing the threat of dropping down to the 1st Amateur League. Lana emerged from their direct encounter at the weekend as the perceived winners, having scored a well-deserved equalizer late in the game. Looking at their remaining fixtures, Stegen also appears to have the easier schedule.

Both teams still have to face the in-form Gitschberg Jochtal away from home. However, Stegen plays at home against already relegated Schenna on the final matchday, which, at least on paper, seems like the "easier" task than Lana's home game against Terlan. But in the season finale, predictions are usually pointless anyway. It's also about nerves.
