Amateur football finals: This is how Sunday went

The South Tyrol Football Association's regional finals took place in Naturns and Plaus last weekend. A total of 23 teams participated, playing 13 matches to determine the best of the best. Here's a recap of Sunday's games.

Regional Cup A-Youth: Virtus Bozen – Calisio 4-1

Virtus Bozen won the U17 Elite Regional Cup in honor of the late CPA Vice President Andreas Canal. In the final in Naturns, the team coached by Paolo Ezechiele clearly defeated Calisio 4-1.

Taka put Bolzano ahead after just four minutes, following a pass from Bolognese. Calisio initially kept the game open and created several chances, but failed to capitalize on them.

After the break, Virtus took control. A deflected shot from Siesto made it 2-0, before Es Sbbar increased the lead to 3-0 from a free kick. Shortly before the final whistle, Taka scored his second goal to make it 4-0. Calisios Ricco then capped off the scoring with a spectacular lob from near the halfway line to make the final score 4-1.

Regional Cup B-Youth: Calisio – Ortigaralefre 1:4

Ortigaralefre secured the U15 Elite Regional Cup, dedicated to the memory of Andreas Canal. In the final in Naturns, coach Micheli's team prevailed 4-1 against Calisio, laying the foundation for their title win with a strong first half.

1st Amateur League: Auer – Latzfons Verdings 3-0

Auer puts the finishing touch on a historic season. In the clash of the two champions of Groups A and B of the First Amateur League, coach Ianeselli's team secured a commanding 3-0 victory against Latzfons Verdings, thus clinching the title of South Tyrolean Provincial Champions. Following their first-ever promotion to the Regional League, the team from the lower Adige Valley can now also lift the First Amateur League Cup.

In the final match in Naturns, Auer set the course for victory early on. Just two minutes had been played when Gruber put his team in the lead with a precise finish into the far corner.

The game was decided before halftime. Between the 27th and 37th minutes, Gasparini took center stage, scoring twice to put the game beyond doubt. First, he beat his marker, entered the penalty area, rounded Oberhofer, and slotted the ball into the empty net for 2-0. Ten minutes later, he struck again: After an attack, the forward found himself completely unmarked in the box and fired a precise low shot past the goalkeeper, giving him no chance.

With a comfortable 3-0 lead, Auer controlled the match after the break and never looked back. Latzfons Verdings tried to get back into the game, but couldn't find a way through the well-organized defense of the Unterland team.

State Championship B-Youth (A): Neugries – Val Badia 2:4 on penalties

Val Badia are the new U15 A state champions. In an exciting and hard-fought final in Plaus, the team coached by Craffonara prevailed against Neugries after a penalty shootout.

Bolzano got off to a better start and took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute through Miraka. The score remained 1-0 at halftime. However, Val Badia equalized shortly after the restart. Vanzi scored early in the second half to make it 1-1, making the game wide open again.

The result was a closely contested final, with both teams fighting for every ball. Neither team managed to score the decisive goal in regulation time or extra time, meaning the match had to be decided by penalties.

There, the Gadertal team proved to have the stronger nerves. While Val Badia only missed one penalty, the Neugries players failed three times against the outstanding goalkeeper Comploi, who thus became the decisive man of the final.

State Championship B-Youth (B): Virtus Bozen B – Feldthurns 6:2

Virtus Bozen B secured the state championship title in the U15 B youth category. In the final in Plaus, the team showed great fighting spirit and, after an early two-goal deficit, ultimately prevailed convincingly 6-2 against Velturno Feldthurns.
