In a new form: South Tyrolean football is back

The ball is rolling again in South Tyrolean amateur football: On Wednesday evening, many local footballers will officially start the 2025/26 season – albeit in some unusual forms.

The season in the Oberliga and Landespokal (Upper and State Cups) will kick off on Wednesday evening, not on the weekend as usual. This will be joined by the Forst Cup for teams from the 2nd and 3rd Amateur Leagues. This means that only teams from the Oberliga to the 1st Amateur League will compete in the Landespokal, with teams from the highest regional league only entering the second round.

The Oberliga Cup will start with three groups of three teams, consisting of the nine South Tyrolean teams. St. Pauls, Brixen, and Val Gardena are still without games and will not begin until Sunday. Newly promoted Ahrntal will face last year's third-place finisher, SV Partschins, on Wednesday evening. For all teams, this will be their first assessment of their position after about three months.

Ahrntal is back in the Oberliga Cup.

In the regional cup, around half of the teams will play this Wednesday, with the majority of the remaining teams starting their competition on Saturday. Two regional league matches will take place on Wednesday evening, when Schenna hosts Gargazon and Lana Terlan. It's likely to be a tough season for Schenna this year. The matchup against the newly promoted team will be a first test of that. The neighboring clash between Lana and Terlan also promises to be explosive.
