State League: The coaches in focus at the opening match

Kurt Forer led Gargazon to their first-ever promotion to the Landesliga (regional league) before leaving the club for Lana. The second half of the season began with a clear defeat against his former club.

Lana's crisis continues into the start of 2026. The former top-division club lost the derby away to Gargazon 0-3 and remains third from bottom in the table. While Lana is in serious danger of relegation, Gargazon has established itself in mid-table. Forer's second stint in Lana has thus far been unsuccessful.

In the shadow of the opening of the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, league leaders Bruneck celebrated a victory in their first match of the second half of the Landesliga season. The Puster Valley team won 2-0 at home against Natz, thus extending their lead over second-placed Naturns, who travel to Terlan on Sunday.

In his debut as coach, legendary Patrizio Morini led Gitschberg Jochtal to a 1-0 away win against Schenna. Meanwhile, player-coach Elvin Reka has taken charge of Olimpia Meran in the second half of the season. With the midfielder in the starting lineup, the Merano side secured a convincing 5-0 victory against Stegen on Saturday.
