Regional Cup: Obermais dominates, Partschins achieves a sensation

The semifinals of the national cup on Wednesday decided who would play for the title. Absolutely crazy scenes unfolded in both matches.

The semifinals of the regional cup took place on Wednesday evening, with some of the heavyweights of local football competing for a place in the final. Ultimately, the two top-division teams, Obermais and Partschins, prevailed in their respective matches – one with a goal fest, the other with a breathtaking comeback.

Maia di Sopra, which missed out on the early decision for the title and promotion with a defeat to Brixen at the weekend, put up a good show in the cup competition against regional league side Val Gardena – and apparently also played to vent some of its frustration. It took 17 minutes for the Gherdëina goal to ring for the first time. Kai Valentini scored after an assist from Felix Lintner. Shortly before halftime, in the 41st minute, Hannes Luther made it 2-0.

Obermais didn't let this lead slip away – quite the opposite. Burggräfler doubled their lead in the second half, securing a clear 6-0 victory with a brace from Luther, a goal from Stefan Turini, and two more goals from Manuel Brusco. The Merano team's dream season remains on track.

Incredible scenes in Partschins

The final opponent of the Oberliga leader emerged in the match between Partschins and St. Pauls. The Vinschgau team, who enjoyed home advantage, were unable to capitalize on it early on. The Überetsch team played more effectively and took the lead through Jacopo Pecoraro in the 37th minute. Johannes Larcher added another in the 63rd minute.

But Partschins wasn't about to give up so easily. Tizian Stecher was the protagonist of an incredible comeback, scoring two goals within three minutes and leveling the game late on. Suddenly, the second semi-final was on fire, and from Paulsner's perspective, the fire was far from extinguished. Alexander Nischler made it 90-3 in the 2th minute – sending the home fans into a frenzy.
