A well-known face of the South Tyrolean football scene will be working at Tscherms Marling.

Marlinger coup with the new assistant coach

He is one of the most successful coaches in South Tyrol's amateur football history. Recently, things have been quiet for Martin Klotzner. Now the Obermaiser native is back.

Tscherms Marling has quietly orchestrated one of the most spectacular transfers of the summer. However, the regional league team hasn't targeted players. Instead, the Burggräfler team has secured the services of Martin Klotzner. The Obermaiser native is not only a South Tyrolean coaching icon, he is also one of the few professionals in the country to hold a UEFA A license. How did Tscherms Marling pull off this coup?

"We've never had a proper assistant coach in recent years," explains President Philip Mittelberger, adding: "We definitely wanted to change that this year and provide our head coach Hansi Mair with a competent person. This is also because we're going through a shake-up in the squad." A total of 16 players have left the regional league team. Many young players have joined from the youth ranks – and that's exactly where Klotzner wants to make a difference.

Youth development as a goal

"Youth development is one of our club's main goals. Now, the next generation of young players from the U19 team will be integrated into the first team," explains Mittelberger. Klotzner will provide targeted, individual support to the young players and, at the same time, will be available to his former protégé Mair as a consultant and assistant coach. Mittelberger: "Hansi and Martin have known each other very well for a long time. That's why Martin offered to take on the assistant coach position."

Klotzner most recently worked in the youth academy of FC Obermais before taking a break. His name repeatedly popped up at various clubs, and in the summer he was even rumored to be interested in the Oberliga. However, due to personal commitments, the former successful coach of Obermais and St. Pauls didn't accept any of these positions. In Marling, however, they are now looking forward to Klotzner's expertise. When asked whether the Meran native's engagement in Marling is a coup, Mittelberger replies with a grin: "Absolutely!"
