Mythos Morktplotz, Day 1: Premiere victory and legendary coup

The myth of the Morktplotz is back. On Saturday, the country's most famous small-field football tournament was officially opened. It was a start that fully met, and even exceeded, expectations. After all, Saturday also saw the biggest new feature of this 34th edition.

Previously, the club tournament was held on Saturdays. This year, it was replaced by a new format. Teams from the eleven districts of Eppan were invited to register for the village tournament. The idea is similar to the club tournament: players who are not usually seen on a football pitch should have the opportunity to prove themselves in the legendary Morktplotz Arena.

The new format was surprisingly well received. Twelve teams registered, with the host village of St. Pauls alone fielding five. And although the focus of the first Morktplotz day was on having fun, all the teams showed commitment and passion.

Girlan-Schreckbichl puts the crown on

Girlan-Schreckbichl won the inaugural tournament of the villages. In a thrilling final, they defeated Paulsner Feld 2-1. Tobias Oberrauch opened the scoring for Girlan. After a long throw-in, he skillfully rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the empty net. The response was almost immediate. Jonas Überbacher headed home a throw-in to level the score. Nico Thalmann then sealed the victory, finishing off a well-worked move.

Third place went to Aich, who prevailed 4-3 in a penalty shootout against Luziafeld/Mariengorten. Gabriel Plunger from Paulsner Feld was named best goalkeeper of the tournament, and Manuel Schweigkofler also came from Paulsner Feld and was awarded best player.

Gauchos cheer at the legends

There were no major changes to the Legends Tournament, which also took place on Saturday. As usual, the numerous spectators were able to admire players and teams who could fill entire books with stories of their experiences at the Mythos Market Square.

No one could hold a candle to the Gauchos in the legends.

Particularly noteworthy: Alemannia Anspach from Hesse and the Salzburg Running and Sauna Club were two teams whose players literally pushed boundaries. Both teams made it to the semi-finals but were defeated, leading to a match for third place. The Running and Sauna Club, supported by some players from Paulsner, ultimately emerged victorious.

The final, however, became a contest between Eppan and Kaltern. Somewhat surprisingly, the Profeten and the Gauchos faced off in the final match. In a hard-fought game, the Gauchos secured their second Legends title. René Tagliapietra practically single-handedly decided the match with a brace. Georg Mauracher of the Running and Sauna Friends was named best goalkeeper, while Diego Zemmer of the Profeten was awarded best player.
