Myth of Morktplotz: Uncanny statistics and Wild West duels

Day 4 of the Mythos Morktplotz tournament is over, but it will likely be remembered for a while. Thursday featured top-class matches, major upsets, and plenty of excitement.

Group E

For ten years, RB Montfort has been making the long journey from Vorarlberg to St. Pauls. Mostly, the red wine was the main attraction, as the Montfort team never achieved particularly high sporting results. But on Thursday, they proved that they had become quite familiar with the Morktplotz (the local pitch) over those ten years. Second place in Group E is their best result to date.

Victory in this group, however, went to VinoBiancos FC. Seven goals scored, none conceded, and seven points. The personnel department is certain: there could hardly be a better application for the title of Morktplotz favorite.

Suasalitos also advanced to the next round. However, the Morktplotz veterans had more trouble than they would have liked. Their opening defeat against Montfort only avoided going down in history as the "Disgrace of St. Pauls" due to their subsequent qualification for the final day.

Warning: Things are about to get uncanny. The Gauchos from Kaltern have become a case for X-Factor – The Unexplained. Even in the legends tournament, which they won, their goal remained untouched. And on Thursday, their defense held firm once again. Across all tournaments, the Gauchos have now gone nine games without conceding a goal. Is there really some kind of magic at work? The final day should provide the answer. Until then, they can celebrate their perfect group victory.

The Parasol Rangers, on the other hand, can feel like true heroes. After two games, they only had one point, and their last match was against the favored Tornado Terlan. The local heroes were therefore up against it. But like Hercules against the Nemean Lion, David against Goliath, or the editorial team against their last bottle of liquor, they fought their way back with a victory. This even allowed them to overtake Tornado Terlan in the standings. Both teams will therefore be in action on Saturday.

In the last game of the day, the Montiggler Strategists and Oltry weren't fighting for their lives, but they were fighting for advancement in the Mythos Morktplotz tournament – and that's no less important. Perhaps we've gone a bit overboard with that comparison, but sometimes a game at the country's most legendary tournament does feel like a duel in the Wild West. Both Oltry and the Montiggler Strategists would have been eliminated with a loss. Ultimately, the Strategists won the standoff.

Hangover 96 also fought their way back after a disastrous start. In their last game, the team from Eppan secured a victory and can be pleased with second place.

Third place went to a team whose name reveals much about their hometown: Badhaus 14. Only the older generation might have questioned this name, as it wasn't long ago that the establishment in Klausen was called Nachtigall. However, a successful debut at the Morktplotz has helped to make the new name familiar to the older generation.
