The country's most legendary small-sided tournament has attracted many stars and starlets, proving that the fascination with the Morktplotz myth remains unsurpassed.
This is how the LEGEND TOURNAMENT went
A symbol of this is the performance of one player at the Legends Tournament: Roman Wallner. The 29-time Austrian national player and Austrian Footballer of the Year in 2001 represented the Salzburg Running and Sauna Club and attracted the attention of the numerous spectators in the Morktplotz Arena. He was also the one who fired his team all the way to the final, where the defending champions, the blue football dwarves, were waiting. Both teams showcased their many years of Morktplotz experience throughout the tournament and demonstrated that they still have plenty of quality. Despite several chances on both sides, no goals were scored in regular time. The game had to be decided in sudden death. There, none other than star player Roman Wallner secured the tournament victory. The former professional coolly finished off a counterattack.
Third place went to the Gauchos from Kaltern, who defeated the legendary Xund'n team in a penalty shootout. Daniel Jordan of the Gauchos was named best player of the tournament, while Yuri Osti of the blue football dwarves more than deserved the award for best goalkeeper.
This is how the CLUB TOURNAMENT went
No less spectacular was the club tournament, which was once again held in memory of the former president of AFC St. Pauls, Ewald Pitschl. There, too, there was a name that caught the eye: Federico Valente, former coach of FC Südtirol, who helped out at FC St. Pauls, a diverse group of recreational and youth players from the club.Winner of the club tournament: HC Eppan junior.
In an extremely evenly matched tournament, two very young teams reached the final. FC Bayern Fanclub Hocheppan, consisting primarily of the B-Youth regional champions of FC St. Pauls, faced HC Eppan Junior, which fielded mostly young players from the hockey club. In a close match, Nicolas Amici secured the decisive victory, propelling HC Eppan Junior to their first Morktplotz title.
The small final saw an internal clash between the St. Pauls Old but Gold Farmers' Youth team and the St. Pauls Young Stars. The youngsters ultimately prevailed in a penalty shootout.
Hans Kager of the Farmers' Youth Old but Gold was named Best Player, and Simon Sparer of the Farmers' Youth Young Stars was named Best Goalkeeper. MythosMorktplotz is now taking a break for a day. The Open Tournament begins on Tuesday.
