Both clubs have now commented on the Thierno Diagne case: The 33-year-old had his second outburst of the season during Weinstraße's away game in Natz and He punched an Eisacktal defender in the head. However, the truth is that the atmosphere was tense from the very beginning. Diagne was reportedly subjected to racist abuse throughout the entire match.
The Weinstraße side stated that Diagne's actions were inexcusable and that the Unterland club was internally planning sanctions against their star striker. Both clubs have since entered into discussions to analyze Sunday's match.
No place for racism
Natz has also commented on the incident, expressing his regret in a statement for the unsportsmanlike conduct on and off the pitch. He stated that this behavior in no way reflects the values of the newly promoted team and its understanding of fair play. Natz, as a club, distances itself from the insults directed at a Weinstraße staff member and Diagne and will also take appropriate action. Both clubs agree on this point: Diagne's act of violence is inexcusable. Likewise, racist insults have no place on the football pitch – nor in the stands.
