Oberliga derbies in the shadow of the Olympics
The 2026 Olympic Games may not directly affect South Tyrolean amateur football, but this weekend the Landesliga opener and two prestigious Oberliga derbies are overshadowed by winter sports.

When the whistle blows for the Urolt derby against Tramin in Rungg on Sunday, the biathlon medals will be up for grabs in Antholz. Will that have a significant impact on the number of spectators at pitch E of the sports complex? It's possible that one or two regulars will be missing this time.
On the other hand, the Oberliga derby between the two traditional South Tyrolean clubs continues to captivate spectators even during the winter sports season. The same is true for the second derby scheduled for this Oberliga Sunday. Virtus Bozen will host their neighbors, Bozner FC, at the Internorm Arena. Essentially a home game for both clubs, as the pitches are only a few meters apart. Intriguingly, while Bozner FC has started the second half of the season with two defeats after a fabulous first half, Virtus Bozen aims to remain at the top of the table – especially as Levico continues to close the gap.
Landesliga season starts on Saturday
The Landesliga season kicks off its second half this Saturday. Lana coach Kurt Forer will face his former club, Gargazon, "at home." Forer has lived in the Burggrafenamt municipality for years and led Gargazon to the championship title in the 1st Amateur League last season. Things aren't going as planned for Lana this year; they're currently battling relegation.Oberliga: 18th matchday
