Thrilling final: Girlan wins the Forst Cup

The Forst Cup, a trophy for the second and third amateur leagues, goes to FC Girlan. In the Ritten Arena in Klobenstein, the white-and-green-clad team, coached by Ivano Albertin, celebrated a 2-1 comeback victory against Steinegg Raiffeisen.

This means the title goes to the team from the lower league, who responded strongly after a shock start and turned the game around. The stands on the Ritten plateau are packed. After all, the prestigious Forst Cup is at stake, a title in which teams from the second and third divisions are participating this season.

Steinegg got off to a better start, immediately applying pressure and celebrating as early as the third minute: After a long ball, Auer misjudged his header, and Obkircher anticipated Tomic's run outside the penalty area. Auer managed to clear Obkircher's initial attempt, but the ball fell to him again. He then laid it off to Markus Lantschner, who beat two defenders and slotted home to make it 1-0.

Girlan initially appeared unsettled, but quickly gained control of their defense and the game suddenly turned around. With their first dangerous attack, Überetsch equalized: Bettini broke through on the left and found Jatta at the far post, whose well-placed right-footed shot left Psenner with no chance. The score was 1-1 in the 9th minute.

Girlan turns the game around

From that moment on, Girlan took control. Bettini, in particular, turned up the heat: In the 14th minute, his powerful long-range shot hit the post, but six minutes later he made amends. From around 18 meters, the number 10 unleashed a shot that nestled into the top corner to give his team a 2-1 lead.

Girlan and Steinegg delivered a thrilling final.

In the 28th minute, Steinegg also made another attacking move, but Peter Lantschner's shot only grazed the crossbar. After the break, Paul Vieider's blue-and-whites pressed for the equalizer. Perlongo tested Tomic with a dangerous free kick, but the Girlan goalkeeper made a strong save.

Markus Lantschner had the best chances to equalize at 2-2. In the 79th minute, his lob hit the post. And in the 90th minute, Steinegg had a golden opportunity to level the score from the penalty spot, but Lantschner's penalty went over the bar. So it remained 2-1 for Girlan, who can celebrate winning the Forst Cup. Steinegg, too, received a warm round of applause after a strong performance.
