The phone calls with him were a recurring highlight, especially on Mondays: there was the football coach from Stuttgart, who blended his unmistakable Swabian dialect with the Teldra accent in an inimitable way. And here was the "Dolomiten" writer, who constantly wondered how a "German" managed to enjoy such high esteem in the often rough and tumble world of South Tyrolean football.

But that was Peter Binanzer, the man who probably always wore his legendary black stopwatch around his neck, even while sleeping: Fear? Not a chance! Lack of courage? Not a chance! Open to new things? Always! Scoring goals or preventing goals? Shoot, shoot, shoot!

He came as a stranger and left as a true Teldra.

When Peter Binanzer came to Luttach in the Ahrntal valley in the 1980s for love, he was a complete unknown. Nevertheless, he was given the opportunity to coach in the "Toule" region, initially in Ahrntal, Taufers, Steinhaus, and Mühlwald. Later, he also coached in Gais, St. Georgen, Taisten, Mühlbach Vals (now Gitschberg Jochtal), Natz, Brixen, and finally as a long-time youth coach in Bruneck.

His coaching of an Eisacktal-Pustertal selection in 1990 was legendary, when they gave Austria a real run for their money at a training camp in Brixen, losing only 0-1. Peter Binanzer came to South Tyrol as an outsider. Now, after a serious illness, he has passed away at the age of 73, a true Teldra native, a friend, and an ever-positive man who leaves a lasting legacy. All of South Tyrol's football and tennis community, but especially his many, many students, will never forget him. Farewell, Bini!
