When the champagne corks pop on New Year's Eve in a few days, SSV Brixen will be able to look back on an outstanding year in 2024. In May, the cathedral city team won the regional league without a single defeat, thus returning to the top league after just one season. The first half of the season in the regional top flight of football was a rollercoaster of emotions, but Brixen was able to crown its year by winning the South Tyrolean top league cup and the regional cup.
Now, however, there is a bombshell announcement: Patrizio Morini is no longer the coach of the cathedral city team. "The decision came from both sides. There were repeated situations in the first half of the season where we couldn't agree on a common denominator," says Luca Consalvo, the sporting director of Brixen. The separation had been in the air for a few days and is now a reality. The former striker adds: "Nevertheless, I would like to thank Patrizio for what he has achieved over the past year and a half."
“Sometimes marriages end prematurely.” Patricia Morini
Morini, who has been on the Brixen sidelines since summer 2023, explains: "We had different ideas in many areas of football. Unfortunately, that's often the case. Sometimes marriages end early, even if things were going very well in sporting terms. We won three trophies this year."
Sullmann becomes new Brixen coach
The Brixen team has already found a successor. Manuel Sullmann will take over the reins at the Eisacktal team in the second half of the season. The former midfielder has coached Stegen and South Tyrol's Europeada team in recent years. "Sulle" has not yet worked as a coach this season. "We expect Manuel to take the euphoria of the cup wins with him, to ensure we stay in the league and to also rely on our young players," said Consalvo.Manuel Sullmann will be the new coach of SSV Brixen. © David Laner
And what happens to Morini? In recent days, there have been rumors that he is set to take over from Stegen as coach. "No, because I'm not allowed to do that! I'm not allowed to move to a club in the same league in the middle of the season," said Morini. But anyone who knows the iconic coach knows that it won't be long before Patrizio Morini is seen on the sidelines again.
