Before the Landesliga clash: “Everything is still possible”

Amateur football is in full swing on Holy Saturday. In the regional league, for example, the top match between FC Gröden and Ahrntal is scheduled. We had a quick chat with the home team beforehand.

Six points separate the top four teams in the regional league. On Saturday, second-placed Val Gardena hosts league leaders Ahrntal at the large sports field in St. Christina. The two teams are currently separated by two points. A win for the visitors could even decide the title race. "All four teams are still in the promotion battle. But of course: whoever wins tomorrow will certainly gain a lot of momentum," explained Peter Rabanser, one of the managers of Val Gardena, on SportNews-Demand.

Six matchdays remain in the regional league. Naturno and Brunico have lost some ground recently and can't afford to let up any more ground. "Everything is still possible," is the message from the Val Gardena clubhouse, who are perhaps the league's best team. "Ahrntal is quite strong defensively. They're very difficult to play against," says Rabanser.

Ahrntal travels to Val Gardena for the top game.

In Val Gardena, they're hoping for "a great atmosphere and packed stands" on Saturday. However, according to Rabanser, after a long winter season, many people in the valley of woodcarvers are currently on vacation. Moreover, the people of Val Gardena aren't necessarily used to going out to watch football. "Everyone who's at home tomorrow knows what to do," Rabanser says. Following the top match, there will be a party in the clubhouse.

Ancient derby in the Oberliga

Due to the Easter weekend, the Oberliga also has a Saturday kick-off. The highlight is certainly the ancient derby between Tramin and St. Pauls, which always draws crowds.

From a league perspective, Obermais can take an important step toward promotion in their home game against Vipo Trento. Their two closest rivals, Partschins (at Bozner FC) and Virtus Bozen (at St. Georgen), face tough away games. A preliminary decision is therefore quite possible.
