Teeth and knees: serious injuries in the top league

The fourth Oberliga matchday saw two prominent injuries. For them, the season could already be over.

Tramin (against Anaune) and Stegen (against Virtus Bozen) both suffered bitter defeats on Sunday. But even more painful than these defeats were two notable losses. Tramin lost defensive leader Davide Caldato, Stegen lost its captain Julian Bacher.

Caldato was hit particularly hard. The experienced Tramin defender was hit in the face by an opponent's elbow during an aerial duel against Anaune. Caldato broke his upper jaw and four of his teeth were bent backwards.

Surgery on Monday

The 36-year-old, who originally comes from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, had to be taken to hospital and will undergo surgery on Monday afternoon. The season is likely to be over for him. Bitter for Tramin: David Toll, the Unterlandler's top scorer with three goals, will also be out for a few weeks with a torn ankle ligament.

Stegen's captain tears cruciate ligament

For Julian Bacher, the football year has come to an early end. Stegen's captain injured his knee without any external influence shortly before half-time in the home game against Virtus Bozen. On Monday afternoon, the bitter diagnosis came: the cruciate ligament is torn, and Bacher will be out for at least six months.

Meanwhile, there is some relief for Matteo Forti. The Virtus Bozen player also had to be substituted early against Stegen. He was initially suspected of having a serious knee injury, but it is believed to have only been a blow. A final diagnosis is still pending.
