FC Südtirol loses further points in the promotion race

FC Südtirol couldn't get past a 30-1 draw at home against the struggling Carrarese footballers, who have been waiting for a win away since October 1th. Coach Giovanni Stroppa's protégés showed a very good performance for long periods, but were mostly unsuccessful in scoring.

Compared to the game against Spezia, Stroppa changed his team to three positions. In defense, captain Hannes Kiem returned to the team and took Tagliani's place, while in midfield Calliari replaced the injured Uliano and Campo came in for Bacher.

The guests took the lead after just six minutes when Andrea Russotto converted a failed foot save by FCS goalkeeper Alessandro Iacobucci to make it 1-0. The White-Reds also had good chances to score in the early stages thanks to Fiwickeler, Schenetti and Iacoponi, but they had no luck at the end. This was also the case in the 28th minute when the opposing goalie was just able to fend off a long-range shot from Calliari. Carrarese only became dangerous towards the end of the first half with two corners.

After the restart it was the same picture: FCS played courageously forward and created good opportunities that remained unused - like the one from Niccolò Giannetti in the 48th minute when the blonde boy was unable to slide the ball into the goal. A few minutes later it was Giannetti again who shot over the goal from a promising position. After two more missed chances from Campo and Albanese, the home team's equalizer was now definitely in the air. In the 76th minute, a Giannetti shot hit the hand of Carrarese player Corrent and the referee pointed to the penalty spot without hesitation. FCS striker Manuel Filehner confidently converted the penalty. As a result, the Stroppa team even pushed for the winning goal, but two remarkable shots from Schenetti were unsuccessful. On the other side, substitute Giovinco left the FCS fans breathless with a hit on the crossbar. This was also the end of the encounter.

“We put in a very good performance, but Carrerese defended cleverly and took the wind out of our sails,” summed up Manuel Filehner after the final whistle. The FCS players' attention is now focused on the important home game on Sunday against league leaders Trapani.
