FC Südtirol: Serie B remains (for now) just a dream

The home side created a slight increase in chances in the early stages. In the fifth minute, Fietta shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Iacobucci showed his class with the powerful low shot. In the 38th minute, FCS number “1” was once again the center of attention when, after a commotion, he threw himself into a shot and was able to clear it with his fists before Campo tested Alfonso with a 25-meter shot that fell to Cremonese's goalkeeper but it was easy prey (42nd). The next opportunity also belonged to the white-reds. Schenetti allowed an opponent to get out on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot went over the goal (43'). It was to be the last chance in this first half, which was very impressive and in which Alessandro Iacobucci certainly kept the FCS in the game with his saves.

Even after the break, the visitors' goalkeeper was the center of attention. Fietta tested Iacobucci with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area (49th), the ball was deflected out of the goal by the goalkeeper. At the following corner, Pestrin and Nizzetto were denied by the FCS keeper.

Afterwards, both teams paid tribute to the high tempo of the first half, as the game became increasingly flat. It wasn't until the 66th minute that Dettori shot from the edge of the penalty area after a failed Cascone defense, but the ball went well over the goal. After this opportunity, the home side were again the more active team, as Cesar (71') with a header and Le Noci with a low shot that just missed the goal (75') were very close to making it 2-1 for Cremonese.

But the FCS could also have taken the lead when Kiem and Chinellato sailed past the ball near the five-meter line in the 79th minute. The White-Reds should have won in the final phase, as Albanese with a shot into the side netting (89th) and Grea with a failed cross (91st) missed two top-class goals in the final minutes to give the White-Reds the winning goal. It remained 1:1, which brings Cremonese into the play out. Barletta couldn't get past a 2-2 draw in Piacenza, even though the Puglia club had taken the lead twice.

FC Südtirol: Serie B remains (for now) just a dream

The FCS would have needed a win on Sunday on the 34th and final matchday in the 1st Division of the Lega Pro away to Cremonese in order to realize their dream of the play-off for Serie B. In the end, Cremonese and the white-reds drew 1-1 and the team from Cremona reached the play-off.
