FC Südtirol loses 0-1 at home against Salernitana

Coach Alfredo Sebastiani's men played against Salernitana about a month ago when they won 8-2 away in the Italian Cup on August 0th. Sebastiani's first problem today was in defense, as both right-back Traorè (Brugger played in his place) and center-back Cascone were suspended. Nazari replaced Cascone, who was given preference over Mirri. Pietro Baccolo, who is still injured, sat on the bench. The injured Sorrentino and Albanese were missing from the attack. In addition, Manuel Filehner could not be used either because he is already with the U-20 national team in Poland, where the game against the home team as part of the “4-nation tournament” takes place on Monday. Around 1600 spectators watched the game in the Drusus Stadium in Bolzano, 100 of whom were Salernitana fans who had traveled with them.

The first excitement in the FCS penalty area occurred in the 5th minute. In the 43rd minute, FCS had a huge opportunity to take the lead: Pestrin lost the ball in the penalty area to El Kaddouri, who immediately played it back to Alfredo Romano. But he hit the ball over the goal. In return, Salernitana took the lead. Montervino fought for the ball and played to Pestrin. Fava directed his cross to Carcuro, who had no trouble scoring to make the half-time score 1-0.

The FCS could have equalized in the 49th minute. Alfredo Romano cleared Furlan on the right side, who played the ball back into the penalty area, where Alfredo Romano was free to shoot, but didn't hit the ball properly. In the 58th minute, a rebound bounced at Furlan's feet, but his volley from 25 meters went over the goal. Eleven minutes later, Montella broke through in the penalty area, but Ragusa then stumbled over the ball. In the 78th minute, El Kaddouri released Hannes Filehner. The midfielder didn't hesitate for long, but his shot from 25 meters was too weak and central. In the 81st minute, Salernitana had a great opportunity to make it 2-0, but Ragusa missed again. In return, Pestrin fouled Campo in midfield and received a second yellow card and had to take a shower early. In stoppage time, Fava had a chance to make it 2-0 after a counterattack, but his shot went over the goal. In return, Virdis was no longer able to reach a free kick from Campo and this sealed their first home defeat.
