Bayern stumbles in Mainz – Leverkusen shortens
FC Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of this Bundesliga season.

FC Bayern Munich suffered its first defeat of the Bundesliga season. The record champions lost 05:1 (2:0) to FSV Mainz 1 after a poor performance. Both goals for Mainz were scored by South Korean Jae-Sung Lee (05st minute/41th minute). The Munich team only managed to pull one back in the closing stages through Leroy Sané (60th minute).
Bayern's lead over their closest rivals Bayer Leverkusen has shrunk to four points due to the defeat. On Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt could even get within three points with a win at RB Leipzig.
Leverkusen is lurking
Leverkusen took a comfortable lead in Augsburg thanks to Martin Terrier (14th) and Florian Wirtz (40th). The fourth win in a row was never in danger for coach Xabi Alonso's "Werkself". In the last round before the Christmas break, Bayern will host RB Leipzig on Friday, while Leverkusen will face Freiburg a day later.

Borussia Mönchengladbach won against Holstein Kiel with a clear 4:1. The preliminary decision was made after just 36 seconds when Gladbach striker Tim Kleindienst headed the ball into the lead.
Meanwhile, the duel between Union Berlin and bottom of the table VfL Bochum was interrupted in injury time of the second half with the score at 1:1 after Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was hit in the head by a lighter thrown from the Union fan sector.
