Bayern dismantle Mainz – BVB wins with 10 men

A whole lot of goals were scored in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon. For example, FC Bayern alone scored 8 goals. There was also a goal spectacle in the Rhenish derby between Gladbach and Cologne.

Möchengladbach is not really getting anywhere. Only one of the last 5 Bundesliga games could be won. On Saturday there was a spectacular 1-3 draw in the derby against 3. FC Köln. This result doesn't really help either team, but at least Cologne sent a message in the relegation battle. The Gaisböcke are currently in relegation place 16.

FC Bayern got their frustration off their chest in the home game against Mainz. The Munich team dispatched the second-to-last in the table with 8:1 (!). After it was 3-1 for the record champions at the break, Harry Kane & Co. added five more times after the break. But because there are only 5 points for a clear win, Bayern remain 3 points behind Leverkusen for the time being. The league leaders will only be in action on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, remains on course for the Champions League. Coach Edin Terzic's team won 2-1 at Werder Bremen on Saturday evening despite being outnumbered at halftime. With the victory, BVB maintained fourth place in the table with a one-point lead over rivals RB Leipzig, who briefly overtook them in the afternoon with a 2-0 win against bottom team SV Darmstadt 98. The Dortmund goals were scored by Donyell Malen (21st minute) and Jadon Sancho (38th) with his first goal since returning to BVB during the winter break. The runners-up played with one man less in the second half after Marcel Sabitzer was shown the red card.
