Bayern Munich could only manage a 0-0 draw against the passionately fighting Royal Blues. For Munich, German international Jamal Musiala made his comeback 18 days after collapsing in Heidenheim.

Bayern Munich pressed for the win in the second half, but Schalke defended their goal with great commitment and a strong performance from Loris Karius. This meant Bayern had to relinquish their top spot in the table after their 5-1 opening win against VfB Stuttgart. Schalke earned their first point of the season after their 3-0 defeat in Augsburg.

The great Musiala comeback

Musiala collapsed on the field during both preseason friendlies against RB Leipzig and 1. FC Heidenheim. The 23-year-old suffers from a neurological dysfunction that can lead to so-called absence seizures. As a result, the young star recently missed the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund, the Bundesliga opener, and the DFB Cup match in Osnabrück.
