The newly promoted team lost 0-3 at FC Augsburg. For Augsburg's coach Manuel Baum, the home win was the desired 47th birthday present from his superior team.
Austrian Michael Gregoritsch (18th minute) and his powerful attacking partner Anton Kade (79th minute) were celebrated as goalscorers and match-winners in front of 30.660 spectators. After the break, Schalke were reduced to ten men following Ron Schallenberg's red card for a last-man foul on Gregoritsch (63rd minute). Substitute Rodrigo Ribeiro added a third goal in stoppage time (90+2) to make it 3-0.

Augsburg pressed forward but repeatedly missed opportunities to seal the victory with a 2-0 lead. Kade then did just that – he was the best player on the pitch.
What is Klopp doing in Augsburg?
Klopp in Augsburg? That was a surprise. But the 59-year-old will be playing his first home international match with the national team against Greece in the Nations League at the WWK Arena on September 27th. It seemed like a good opportunity to get a firsthand look at the local conditions. And perhaps also to observe some interesting players. FCA goalkeeper Finn Dahmen was already part of the German national team squad under Klopp's predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann.| SP | G | U | V | TV | P | |
