Leverkusen remains invincible

Bayer 04 Leverkusen continued their unbeaten streak this season on Sunday in the 32nd round of the Bundesliga. The champions literally shot Frankfurt off the pitch. Meanwhile, Bochum has moved closer to staying in the league.

German soccer champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen impressively continued their unbeaten streak this season on Sunday in the 32nd round of the Bundesliga with a 5-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt. With two rounds to go, the lead over last year's dethroned champions Bayern Munich is 15 points.

The Leverkusen team, who have now been undefeated for 48 games this season, were unimpressed by the fact that coach Xabi Alonso did not take a seat in the dugout due to his yellow card suspension. Granit Xhaka (12th), Patrik Schick (44th), Exequiel Palacios scored from the penalty spot (58th) and substitutes Jeremie Frimpong (78th) and Victor Boniface (89th/foul penalty) scored for the guests. Hugo Ekitiké scored the equalizer for Eintracht in front of 58.000 spectators (32nd). The Frankfurters still have to worry about sixth place in the final spurt of the season, four places ahead of the lurking SC Freiburg.

VfL Bochum close to staying in the league

After a spectacular 4-3 win at 1. FC Union Berlin, VfL Bochum is very close to staying in the Bundesliga. Maximilian Wittek (16th/31st minute), Keven Schlotterbeck (37th) and Philipp Hofmann (70th) scored the goals for the relieved guests on Sunday in the sold-out stadium at the Alte Försterei with 22.012 spectators. Yorbe Vertessen (59th), Chris Bedia (62nd) and Benedict Hollerbach (74th) caused tension in the second half after a desolate first half for Berlin. Bochum can no longer be relegated immediately after the victory. Union, on the other hand, is still in acute danger.

Mainz ultimately missed out on relegation to Union Berlin. Mainz are in third-to-last place in the table, one point behind the capital city team and five points ahead of Cologne. A goal from Jonathan Burkardt (36th) was not enough for Mainz to achieve their longed-for first away win of the season. Tim Kleindienst equalized for Heidenheim (65th).
