The “Werkself” won 2-1 away to Heidenheim on Saturday. The lead over the opponent from Munich, who will be visiting Bochum on Sunday, is currently eight points. With their next success, Leverkusen equaled FC Bayern's record of 32 games without defeat. The record champions achieved this across all seasons between December 2019 and September 2020.
Heidenheimers, who were unpleasant to play against, made things difficult for Leverkusen for a long time. Jeremie Frimpong used the only clear chance to score in the first half to take the lead for the “Werkself” (45th + 2). After the break, Leverkusen increased the number of attacks on offense. Goalscorer Frimpong narrowly missed from a tight angle (61'), Florian Wirtz hit the crossbar with a powerful finish (77').

A little later, Amine Adli pushed in after great preparatory work from Wirtz for the supposed preliminary decision (81'). Bravely fighting Heidenheimers created tension again after a header from Tim Kleindienst (87'). In the end, Leverkusen deservedly celebrated their 18th win of the season. After 22 match days, the “Werkself” are still unbeaten and remain on course for the championship. Heidenheim's Nikola Dovedan came on as a substitute at halftime.
