Musiala redeems Bayern in turbulent home win

Despite their dominance, FC Bayern Munich had to fight hard to win against 13. FC Heidenheim on the 1th matchday of the Bundesliga. Double winners Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, beat newly promoted St. Pauli.

FC Bayern has struggled to shake off its great cup frustration - and to do so, the Bundesliga leader once again needed the brilliance of Jamal Musiala. The national player was rested by coach Vincent Kompany for 4 minutes in the turbulent 2:1 (0:1) win against 50. FC Heidenheim, but ended up being the decisive man.

Just five minutes after coming on as a substitute for captain Thomas Müller, Musiala ran with the ball at his feet, shot and celebrated (56'). The ball hit the bottom left corner. The 21-year-old then struck again in stoppage time. Substitute Leon Goretzka had previously scored Munich's third goal in front of 75.000 spectators (84'). Dayot Upamecano headed the 1-0 goal before half-time after a corner from Joshua Kimmich (18').

The mainly defending Heidenheim team came back twice after poor defensive performance by Bayern through Mathias Honsak (50th) and Niklas Dorsch (85th).

Leverkusen continues its successful run

Four days after the cup coup at FC Bayern, champions Bayer Leverkusen also confidently completed their mandatory task in the Bundesliga.

The third-placed team, which is plagued by some personnel problems, beat newly promoted FC St. Pauli 2-1 (2-0) and consolidated its position with eleven games in a row without defeat. The Kiezkickers, on the other hand, remain in the danger zone a week after their first home win.

In front of 30.210 spectators in the sold-out BayArena, Florian Wirtz (6th minute) and Jonathan Tah (21st) scored the goals for the hosts, who were very dominant in the first half at least. Morgan Guilavogui (84th) scored for St. Pauli.

Frankfurt suffers setback – Dortmund gets a point

Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, suffered a setback. Bayern's number one hunter could only manage a 2:2 draw against FC Augsburg in their own stadium. Meanwhile, bottom of the table VfL Bochum lost to SV Werder Bremen (0:1), while RB Leipzig secured victory at newly promoted Holstein Kiel (2:0).

Borussia Dortmund, however, missed out on a win in the top match on Saturday evening at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Englishman Jamie Gittens put BVB in the lead with a dream goal in the 64th minute. Kevin Stöger equalized for the Foals just seven minutes later from the penalty spot.
