After a scuffle with Sanè: Union coach is banned

After the memorable red card for an assault against Leroy Sané, coach Nenad Bjelica from Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin has been suspended for three games. He also has to pay a fine of 25.000 euros. The DFB sports court decided this on Thursday, and Union agreed to the verdict.

In the game against FC Bayern Munich (0-1), Bjelica caught German international Leroy Sané twice with his hand in the face with a good quarter of an hour to go. The derailment caused a huge stir - there had never been such a dismissal in the Bundesliga. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel preferred not to comment. “It’s not my place to judge,” said Tuchel.

“I want to give him the ball. He pushed me in my room, then of course I reacted,” Bjelica defended herself. He had to apologize to his own team for his behavior. “Not with Sané. He comes into the room to provoke me.” But that doesn’t excuse the fact that he didn’t react appropriately, said Kroate. Before the red card, a missed penalty had angered the Berlin bank. Bjelica didn't calm down after that.

“I’ve already forgotten the scene.” Leroy Sanè

“I was a little upset,” he told the TV station Sky. But his behavior was “not okay. What I did cannot be tolerated. I understand the red card.” Sané got away with a yellow card. The Union players didn't just see their coach as responsible. “I don't want to sugarcoat anything, but it was well provoked. But it doesn’t excuse anything,” said defense attorney Kevin Vogt.

Sane himself emphasized in the BILDthat he actually just wanted to get the ball back quickly to start the next attack. “Then it got a bit wild and he grabbed my face.” The 28-year-old didn’t hold any grudges because of the action. “I’ve already forgotten the scene,” said the DFB team striker.
