Riera starts with a draw in Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt missed a chance to break the deadlock in the debut of their new coach Albert Riera and remain winless in the new year.

The Hessians had to settle for a 1-1 draw at 1. FC Union Berlin in the opening match of the 21st matchday and have now gone nine competitive matches without a win.

Nathaniel Brown's late go-ahead goal (84th minute) had given Frankfurt hope of turning the game around. But Union quickly and deservedly equalized through a penalty converted by Leopold Querfeld (87th minute). Prior to the penalty, Eintracht Frankfurt's Oscar Höjlund received a second yellow card for repeated fouls.

Union Berlin will likely also be dissatisfied with the draw at the Alte Försterei. The Iron Ones are winless in six games and remain three points behind Eintracht Frankfurt in the table.
